Facades+ comes to Denver October 1
Kicking off the month of October, the Facades+ conference series returns to Denver at the Westin Denver Downtown. The event’s program is developed in part with POPULOUS: Fentress Studios co-chairs: senior principals Robin Ault and Kimberly Mahnken. The program includes discussions and case studies on the newest in design and facade technology.
Attendees are also encouraged to visit the Methods + Materials gallery, which features over 20 exhibiting building product companies.

Facades for Learning Spaces: The Anythink Nature Library
The Anythink Library is a civic project that aspires to merge indoor and outdoor spaces to mark Colorado’s first nature-based library. The project team composed of Davis Partnership Architects, Thornton Tomasetti, GH Fips, and Anythink Libraries take attendees behind the building’s development. The library features wide bays of transparent glazing to improve daylight penetration alongside organic massings that support its curved overhang roofing.
Full-Scale Facades: The Denver Summit FC Stadium and the IAH Mickey Leland International Terminal
Lead architects and designers from Populous and POPULOUS: Fentress Studios gather in a panel to present the innovative facades of two large-scale projects: The Mickey Leland International Terminal at Houston International Airport and the upcoming Denver Summit FC Stadium. The panel will present their approaches to remain detail oriented in the face of demanding technical projects.
Keynote Speaker: Marlon Blackwell
Marlon Blackwell joins Facades+ Denver in a special keynote address. Blackwell leads the internationally recognized practice Marlon Blackwell Architects, whose works have garnered more than 200 design awards including the 2016 Cooper Hewitt National Design Award in Architecture and the 2025 Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize. The firm has cultivated a studio renowned for its formal clarity, contextual depth, and architectural integrity.
Maximizing Facades for Community Housing
Join Chad Holtzinger of Shopworks Architecture to dive into the psychological impact of facades. Holtzinger will investigate how architects and designers can work to create welcoming spaces for those who are unhoused. Examples from Shopworks’ projects, such as The Mothership, will analyze the effective utilization of exterior and interior design to promote serenity and safety as a gateway toward rehabilitation.
Colorado School of Mines Residence Hall VII: A Case Study in Resilient Student Housing
Representatives from Anderson Mason Dale, Cascadia Windows & Doors, and Horizon Glass, are brought together in a case study exploring the design and construction of Colorado School of Mines Residence Hall VII. The new student housing development, currently under construction in Golden, Colorado, explores how the state’s unique climate challenges have necessitated high performance and durable facade envelopes. Attendees will gain insights on how institutional facades can perform against intense solar exposure, temperature extremes, and growing resilience demands, while retaining an air of community and wellness.
Green Facades for Modern Mixed-Use: 1900 Lawrence
The team behind Goettsch Partner’s 31-story Class A office tower at 1900 Lawrence Street in downtown Denver presents a mixed-use development that masterfully incorporates climate-friendly design within its facade envelope. The tower contains office space, a parking garage, tenant residences, and retail all integrated in the building’s stepped massing to blend the indoor and outdoor green spaces. The project is designed with the latest technology and standards in mind, and is currently pursuing LEED Platinum certification.
